The language courses in our model are divided as follows:

• Level A1: beginner

• Level A2: elementary

• Level B1: intermediate

• Level B2: upper intermediate

• Level C1: proficiency/ advanced

 

Course overview

 

A1

For: beginners

Course description:

• the emphasis is placed on basic academic and cultural vocabulary (hobbies, shopping)

• this course covers strategies which include self-monitoring and recognizing organizational styles

• the students get familiar with basic grammatical structure

By the end of this course the students can understand and use everyday expressions and very basic phrases and answer questions about their personal details.

 

A2

For: beginners with background knowledge

Requirements: successfully completed level A1 or comparable linguistic proficiency

Course description:

• after a review of material covered in the beginning course, more advanced grammar structures are presented and practiced

• speaking, listening, writing and reading skills are further developed

• the students explore the foreign language world through communication and various theoretical approaches

By the end of the course the students should:

• be able to deal with the main points of clear standard topics

• understand frequently used expressions related to areas like basic personal and family information, employment

 

B1

For: advanced beginners with substantial linguistic background knowledge

Requirements: this class is conducted in the foreign language, requiring students to have Level A2-knowledge

Course description:

• the students learn and practice more complex grammatical structures with greater emphasis on composition and reading comprehension

• the emphasis is placed on strategies for effective reading to improve comprehension and analytical skills.

• this course offers in-depth study of cultural and academic writing, preparing students for the college-level

At the end of this course students should:

• be able to comprehend, synthesize and criticize input on matters in work, school, etc

• describe experiences and events and give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans

 

B2

For: intermediate students with an accelerated level

Requirements: successfully completed intermediate level B1

Course description:

• an advanced course for students who wish to deepen their fluency and knowledge of the foreign language through the study of advanced grammar and literature

• expansion of the vocabulary through academic reading skills

• upper intermediate-level grammatical structures and oral communication skills are learned, further developed and practiced

• this course is designed to enhance also the hearing and reading skills

At the end of the course the students learn:

• to express themselves clearly both in speaking and writing

• to lead discussions on difficult topics and work-related issues

• to produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topic issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options

 

C1

For: advanced students

Requirements: successfully finished B2-course

Course description:

• students are encouraged to appreciate academic texts as accessible work

• considerable attention is devoted to the various theoretical approaches

• this class is designed to increase proficiency in the second-language through the concentration on the study of language through civilization, literature and current events

At the end of this course the students:

• can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts and recognize implicit meaning and differentiate finer shades of meaning complex structures

• can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes

• can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously and work on literary, socio-political, cultural and scientific topics
